Unveiling the Beauty of
Kundalika Valley

Kundalika Valley is a serene gorge in the Sahyadris, situated just beside the more renowned Andharban trek. Formed over centuries by the erosive flow of the Kundalika River, it showcases dramatic canyon‑like vistas, clear natural pools, and dense forest trails descending via the historic Savalya Ghat route. While the valley itself remains relatively undiscovered, the Kundalika River has earned fame among rafting enthusiasts—fed by morning releases from the Bhira and Mulshi dams, it offers Grade II–III rapids over a ~12 km stretch near Kolad suitable for both beginners and seasoned rafters. Located about 60–70 km from Pune and nestled below Bhira-Tamhini Ghat, Kundalika Valley blends offbeat tranquility with adventure tourism, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers, photographers, trekkers, and thrill-seekers alike.

Kundalika valley Overview

Kundalika Valley offers a captivating trek through the heart of the Sahyadri range, located adjacent to the famed Andharban route. Carved out over millennia by the Kundalika River, this valley features narrow gorges, forested descents, and crystal-clear natural pools that remain drinkable even in summer.

The trek begins near Pimpri village and follows the historic Savalya Ghat trade route, marked by carved staircases, ancient water cisterns, and dense greenery. The full trail spans approximately 11 km and takes about 7–8 hours to complete, descending around 1,800 ft into the Bhira Dam backwaters.

The region is abundant in flora and fauna—look out for local bird species like kingfishers, minivets, and Malabar whistling thrushes. During monsoon months (June to early September), lush vistas, cascading streams, and vibrant greenery transform the valley into a surreal natural paradise. Travelers usually trek in daylight only; while experienced groups may choose to camp overnight, most opt for a same-day return to Pune post-trek.
